The Hashtag Awl is where woodworking meets engineering
Every aspect of these Awls is made from scratch in house. The wood is selected and milled to ensure only the finest pieces make it to the workbench. The awl spikes are cut, shaped and tempered by hand and every single ferrule is meticulously shaped and milled from bar stock to order.
Awls are a great accompaniment, as opposed to a replacement for a marking knife. Marking knives tend to be directional and can quite easily grab onto wood grain and waver from the line you need.
Scratch Awls have a non directional spike and are perfect for making out curves as well as straight lines

WOOD CHOICE
Wood choice for an Awl is less about function and more about aesthetic, but that doesn't mean we will jus use any old piece of timber.
Where possible the wood is stabilised to ensure stability, weight and density are controlled and only the best pieces are cut and selected.
The real estate available on these small handles is vastly smaller than on a mallet handle, so every square mm needs to provide a visual feast or its not making it onto a Hashtag Awl.
THE FERRULE
Every single ferrule is made in house, by hand, from solid metal bar stock.
The spike is epoxied and pinned into the ferrule for increased strength and durability, and to increase the quality of the finish by allowing the spike to be used to shape and finish the awl handle

The ferrules are designed to create both a mechanical and chemical bond to the Awl handle and they are designed to last!!
THE SPIKE
Cut and shaped by hand from Silver steel and hardened and tempered to ensure a super sharp edge that will last for a million years
So sharp they pierced my nail and went into my nail bed without any pressure at all
The spike is pinned into the ferrule before being epoxied into the handle so you never have to worry about it coming loose...ever!!
